anyone know what to do? is there a specific office to contact? I wrote to the address HM Revenue and Customs Pay As You Earn and Self Assessment BX9 1AS United Kingdom but still hasn't been sorted out
thanks
I would call HMRC. I even got a faster response then raising a query online which went ignored and they immediately backed down when I got on the phone.
New coding notice sent just after a week later.
I don't know if they are making a lot of mistakes of late - my problem was they took an employer I had left nearly 4 years ago and made them main Employer, then took my real and one and only Employer made them second job...as I had been with them long enough to suffer 'automated feeds' So I feel your pain.
Even my ex Employer said formally they don't know what HMRC are on.0 -
This appears to be for week number 10 does that agree with your payslip, if no week number what was the date of payment?
Do you have any other deductions apart from tax and national insurance?
yes it's week 10 (it says tax period 10, I guess that's what it means? silly question...)
I also have
NI CONTRIBUTIONS £ 40.19
INCOME TAX £87.40
TPP EE PENSION £11.43
any advice?0 -

happened to me too, 4 phones call to HMRC in total, one calls in the morning the operator didn't see any record of employer P for the last year (!!) and an agency I worked for only twice on 2 Saturdays as my main job... another operator replied when I called late afternoon and voila', job P was there but job A wasn't
glad it's not just me to be honest !0 -
how it is possible that given the same figures https://www.listentotaxman tells me I should get £403 per week (which is what I got paid up to 2 weeks ago) and now I get £ 357 ?0

This is the question that I am trying to answer for you. Unfortunately it can take a little while for me to check different possibilities. So far all I can tell you is that as at week 10 the total tax paid to date for the tax code used is correct if looked at in isolation ignoring the other tax code you have for the other employment.
The next thing to check is what happened to past payments. Same details as before for weeks 8 and 9 that is
Taxable gross
Tax paid
Tax code
Taxable pay to date
Tax paid to date0 -

Week 9 (worked 4 days, not 5 because of bank holiday which is unpaid in my job)
Taxable gross (gross pay) 397.52
Tax paid (total deductions) 68.51
Tax code 1191LW1
Taxable pay to date 3,997.65
Tax paid to date 350.60
Net pay: 329.01
EE'S NI TO DATE: 315.72
Week 8 (Worked 5 days)
Taxable gross (gross pay) 495.83
Tax paid (total deductions) 102.45
Tax code 1191LW1
Taxable pay to date 3,608.58
Tax paid to date 318.80
Net pay 393.38

net pay between week 8 and 10 is very different, and slightly different tax code0

actually 2 weeks ago I got paid £393.38 but that's fine, I guess it accounts for the money I owe HMRC (or at least that's what I thought)
it isn't a huge difference0 -

Weeks 8 and 9 were taxed on a non-cumulative tax code. This means that each week your tax was decided by what you earned that week. Week 10 you were put onto a cumulative tax code so that now your tax was decided by your total earnings to date. Had you been on the 1191L week 1 code from the start of the tax year then this would have not caused a jump in your tax so there are now three possibilities.
Either you have received more than ten payments so far this tax year which I think is unlikely so we will leave that one for now.
Or you were on a higher tax code for the start of the year which has now been adjusted firstly with the week 1 code and then the cumulative code. This is I think the most likely so you need to look back over your payslips to see if the 1191L code goes back to the beginning of the tax year ie week1 or are there payslips with a higher tax code on them.
You mention that last year your code was 1342L and unless HMRC advise differently this would be the code used to start you off for this year (uprated by 50 places)
If you have been on 1191L week 1 or 1191L accumulative since the start of the tax year the third possibility is that some adjustment has been made to your taxable gross to date/tax paid to date. To check this will need the taxable gross to date and tax paid to date along with weekly taxable gross and tax paid for each week from start of the tax year.0 -
Thank you very much for the advice, it's a lot clearer now0
