Can't paste files from desktop onto SD card

put an old SD card with plenty of music on it into my new phone. Tried to copy and paste and cut and paste more music onto it but I just get a little window saying 'copying' or 'moving' respectively but there is no progress along the bar. I deleted a few files from the SD card to create more space in case that was an issue but got same result.I can copy and paste files from the SD card ok

Maybe copy everything to your desktop and then format the card again (a full format). Fat32 obviously.0

the card works in terms of playing music I don't want to risk losing what's on it or have to buy another card having just wasted money on a corrupted one0 -
How will you lose anything if you copy it to your PC before formatting the SD card?
If that's your only copy you should have a backup strategy anyway.0 -
the card could by marked as read only, and this will not show up anyware. look at this below and it is more or less the same under widows 10, except you may have to clear the flag on both the disk and also the volume http://blog.patricknielsen.net/2010/02/diskpart-removing-readonly-flag-from.html
NOTE? there is also a way where you can check if is it set to read only or not, do not trust this, set it anyway, this also works on hard disks and usb sticks too.
it could also be something else0 -
Don't most SD cards (or their adapters anyway) have a tab that you can flick between read only and write, the Lock switch? If this is not in lock mode and an SD/USB/other drive suddenly becomes read only it usually means its about to become toast.
To the OP, if its only an issue with the desktop, easiest short-term solution is make a folder somewhere else and copy from there? I get the impression from what you're written you can copy and paste to/from the SD in any other folder but the desktop?
You don't have any illegal characters in your filenames do you or any reserved names, listed here?

Yes, the cards definitely did, but have not see this in many years on my phone ones, but just looked at a full size one and there still is a slider switch on itNeil_Jones wrote: »Don't most SD cards (or their adapters anyway) have a tab that you can flick between read only and write, the Lock switch?0 -
This is a micrcan't see any switch on it. The files on it were copied and pasted onto it from desktop when it was in my old phone, so why it won'tlet me do it now is a mystery. It's not a desktop issue, it won't let me paste from my music folder either. othing dodgy about titles either
that - the procedure you link too way beyond my skill level
Just realised I had a big windows 10 update yesterday, wonder if that has caused issues???? Laptop now isn't even showing existence of external storage on my phone, just internal, though my phone shows all the files and plays them0
