Proof of previous address

Hello

Submitted all documents for mortgage application last Tuesday. But they are asking for proof of my previous address from 3 years ago?

How do I prove that? I don't have any paperwork that old.

Thanks!

Are you sure they are asking for "proof" of your address or just to list you address from 3 years ago?

I haven't heard of anyone asking for the former (I know i wasn't) The latter is part of the credit check.

Off the top of my head...

Does it show as a linked address on your credit file(s) when you changed the address's when you moved?

It's good to keep proof of things for 5/6 years for this sort of reason though!
  • Yes it does show on all 3 of my credit files.

Shame I didn't know to keep things for that long. Will in future.

Will phone them and see what they are looking for.
  • Just off the phone. I think they are confused because my previous address is almost the same as my current address.

My mum lives upstairs which is where I lived before, so it's just the flat numbers that are different.

They asked if I had no credit there or wasn't on the electoral roll and I've told them I did have credit there and I was on the electoral roll there also.

They're going to look into it again and let me know.

    Leeds or Precise?

Get used to the idea of asking for a "postal" bank statement dated about half-way through the year they are querying.

In a worst-case scenario, you can be asked for POA for any year you aren't visible on the voter's roll on the lender's chosen CRA's version of your credit history.

  • It's yorkshire building society.

I think there's confusion between flat numbers. Some companies have it as 3/4 and some have flat 2/1, 3 street address. It is the 4th flat of number three, but also 2nd floor 1st flat of number 3.

It's never been easy in a flat. Would never be in one again.

It would be easier if people used the Royal Mail PAF search output for their address and didn't decide to make up their own, or what they fancy sounds nicest;-

Not suggesting you have done this BTW, just commenting on one of the issues mortgage brokers face every day.

Unfortunately "people" often include official bodies such as the council tax office or Land Register using their own systems.
  • I completely agree. Would have all been so much easier if they used the same one. I use the royal mail one myself.
