First time buyer - Can I close remotely?

So, I’m eventually starting to ramp up looking for a home with an appointment with an advisor booked in a few days to see how much I can borrow and will be starting to view houses soon as well. I’ll be looking to buy alone. That’s about as much background as you need for that part.
I work at sea so I’m on a work/leave pattern of 4 months on and 3 months off. This is giving me a little bit of anxiety when it comes to buying a home as it puts me on a little bit of a tight time scale. I obviously can’t start viewing houses until the clocks already ticking and there’s very little chance I can go from searching to viewing to closing in that time so I was wondering how much of this can be done remotely??? Or if I could possibly nominate someone to act as a go between during the process?
With a bit of luck I could be based in the country and although difficult I could get things done but I could also just as likely be out of the country with little to no access to the internet. Am I realistically going to be able to buy a house here?

the other issue is getting home insurance which will cover the periods the house is unattended, there is usually a maximum time it can be unoccupied before they will not cover it.
You could giving a power of attorney to the solicitor/conveyancer but that is tricky thing to do"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
