Absolutely, you must only replace the caps if they are the same number, but in your case perhaps better not to at all - our council didn't used to trust us to read the caps as well as the bottles either, and seeing what some people put out in thir recycling, you can understand why!
In your case, it would still benefit you to do the rinse in a little kettle water because a crushed bottle will still drain, but it will take up less space.0 -

Thanks. Walking around town I have noticed that people leave the tops on bottle in the recycling boxes, but we shouldn't do it when using the recycling point!
I always have crushed the plastic bottle anyway, but have started rinsing then first now.0
