It will take a long time for the vendor to understand they are being deluded. Chances are you and the vendor are not going to agree.

I would throw an offer in, as above explain why it is so much below the asking price (no harm having a bash is there) but I would then move on to the next one. I think anything more than that will be a waste of everyones time.
