Old spectacle frames, new lenses?

Is there anywhere which will cost effectively put new prescription lenses into old frames? I have a number of glasses in very good condition which have lenses with my old prescriptions and would like to re-use the the frames.

I use reglazemyglasses and have been very happy with their services but there are other firms that do the same.
Googling "glasses deglaze" should give plenty of hits.0 -

I used to do that all the time, I just went back to the place where I first bought them and got them frames re-glazed with the new prescription.0 -

Hi, I did ask a couple of opticians some years ago but was issued with dire warnings that they could not guarantee that it would be successful and if the glasses broke, they wouldn’t be liable and I would have to pay the full price! These were all opticians where the glasses are sent away from the shop.0 -
Glasses Direct

I haven't used this particular service, but get all my glasses from them and they've been helpful in the past.0 -
You could ask one of your local independent opticians. My sister used to have this done and had no problems. I think an independent optician would be more likely to offer this service. I bought some frames in Costco recently and took them to an independent optician to have the lenses made and inserted. The lenses cost was only £35 which was much more cost effective.
I used to be Starrystarrynight on MSE, before a log in technical glitch!0 -
A lot of places do it, it depends on if its simple single lenses or more complex. For the online suppliers you have to send glasses off and wait for them back in the post. Depends if you have a spare pair to use.0

I sent my spectacles and sunglasses to glasses direct but disappointingly they have told me they only do prescriptions up to -8 and my prescription is -9. Does anyone know any reglazing companies which would reglaze at a decent price?0

My glasses have come back without the lenses changed. I may have missed something but I took the woman on the phone from glasses direct at her word when she said my prescription was above -8. However when I look at the prescription again the sphere is right: -7 and -5 with cyl both -2 and left -5.75 and -3.75 with the cyl both 3.50. The axis for all 180. The woman maintained my prescription was -9 but, as I say I may be missing something, but they all seem to be below -8? Can anyone advise? Thanks!0

It's because the highest minus in the lens will be at the axis and will incorporate both the sphere and the cyl, therefore (-7.00) + (-2.00 )= -9.00, nothing you have done wrong just the way your eyes are. They will work on the highest mirridian, and a prescription can be written in 2 ways (+ or - cyl) + cyl gives the highest mirridian in your case, your prescription will be -9.00 +2.00 axis 90 in your right eye, and take you over their glazing limit.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

Thanks for that - very useful to know! Hopefully I'll find somewhere that will do it for a reasonable price, although I do understand if it's better for some glasses to be fitted by an opthalmologist0
