VERY old mortgage debt

Long story but I had a house which was repossessed back in 1998. There was negative equity of approx 25k. In 1999 I made a full and final settlement iffer of £2.5k which was accepted. Fast forward 19 years and I have just received 2 letters: one from Halifax telling me the case has been referred to Moorcroft for recovery of the debt and another from Moorcroft telling me I owe over 18k.

Firstly, surely a full and final is exactly that? Secondly, isn't this statute barred? 19 years with no communication whatsoever.

Can somebody advise the best way forward on this?

Thankyou
