Good grief, 20 miles is quite a way to have to travel. I didn't know about this. My local passport office is quite far it would seem (had a google).
Serious question - if 20 miles causes you problems with the travel distance, why do you need a passport? The distance to anywhere that you would need the passport for is much, much greater, so would not overseas travel cause you even greater difficulties?.

The requirement for countersigning is that they are "a person of good standing in their community" OR a member of a recognized profession. What the first bit means and who qualifies is unclear, because the inclusion of "OR" suggests that you do not have to work in a recognized profession to be a person of good standing .... Google has not helped me resolve this.

Do you go to the pub? Publician is on the list. Any physios or anything or social workers?

No, I do not go to the pub.

    No physios or a SW.

And to those asking, 20 miles, or much more in a day and back is a lot for me.

I want a passport to travel, yes, but I would then give myself enough time on each end to recover. I know full well when I arrive I'd have to recover for a full day before I am up to anything.

I also want a passport for other reasons, some to do with what's happening with ID. I look foreign, but I was born here. I see so many people now being asked for ID or a passport before medical treatment, I am worried the direction we may be heading in, so I wish to have my own passport. I want that safety, even if I am too unwell to travel, which is my right.

I just think it's quite a lot to ask people now, especially as they never used to.

A sign of the times we live in.

These extra checks have become necessary due to the increase in false documents nowadays.

So now you have to prove you are who you say you are.

The post master in our local village shop signed when we needed documents verified.

Our GP was quite happy to sign our Power of Attorney documents and did not charge us but it is a local rural surgery where you are known by sight and your first name.
