I tried an independent broker with good reviews,

Most mortgage brokers are small local firms with little or no internet coverage. So, reviews on them are unlikely. There are some that sign up for rubbish like Trustpilot but they are so easily manipulated that they are best ignoring.

When people are generally referring to mortgage brokers on this thread, they are talking about the small local firms. Not national firms, internet or telephone based methods or estate agents.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

Right I understand, and that is what I went with - a small local firm. Regarding the reviews, they were Google reviews from past clients.
