Tesco reduced price barcoded stickies

I was under the impression that the barcoded reduced price stickers, made it now impossible to get them to pay you for taking goods away.

For example 1.99 pack on BOGOF, packs reduced to 50p. Under the old system if you bought 2 costing you £1.00 the till would refund you £1.99 so you are paid £0.99 to take the stuff away from Tesco.

I thought that the tills had been upgraded so that if it was a barcode reduced sticker the till only gave you back 50p so you paid 50p for 2 (BOGOF).

What is your recent experience of this?

  • The bogof chicken slices currently at £1.99 give full £1.99 off despite being yellow stickered. So buy 2 for 1p, the cat loves it although wouldn't give it to the kids.

Is there a thread about this? Because yeah, I did buy the chicken slices, and got paid to take it away.

I'd like to know why this is happening? I thought I would only get a refund of the reduced price for the 2nd pack of chicken. Hasn't it been the case for a couple of years now, that they only refunded you the reduced price on BOGOFs? So has it changed and will it apply to all other items in the same way?

I can only think it is a glitch which they will quickly fix. So those chicken slice are reduced all over the UK, they couldn't sell it obviously at 1.99!
  • I think but could be wrong if an item is bogof and is advertised as such it has to be honoured

That is not what this post is about. Yes you will still get BOGOF but will you pay 2 x £1 yellow ticket and get £1.99 deducted at the end. The till software was corrected sometime ago but, as with all epos programs, some (read many, believe me it is frustrating  ) errors still get through.

Ok I'm back, finally get to see what's been said on this thread.

Yes you do get BOGOF on reduced price items, but they had fixed the tills to give you the cheapest reduced price as the BOGOF refund. IF an item was 1.99 reduced to 30p, you used to get a refund of 30p when you bought 2 @ 30p.

Recently I bought 2 chicken slices 1.99 BOGOF reduced to 49p. When they went through the till I saw I was refunded 1.99 (like the good ol' days). I returned to do another shop and bought 20 packs of chicken and £10 of other shopping, I paid about £1 at the till.

What I was asking is.........Is this just a glitch?
    Why chicken slices?
    Has anyone else been successful?
Was there a thread already on MSE about the chicken slices?
How come that user above is from Devon and he got the same result?
Are Tescos up and down the country swamped with chicken slices that they have to resort to paying us to take them away :D
When was the most recent chicken slices extravaganza at your store?
