Quad Lock / Topeak bike phone mounts

6.7K Posts

I'm not a big time cyclist but when i do go out i'm not a huge fan of my phone in an arm strap. I know it's the cheapest option but i'd much prefer it to be in a holder up front.
I did a bit of googling and out came results of 'Quad Lock'. I liked the design of it all but then i wondered about biking in the rain and wasn't overly impressed with the 'poncho' idea.
I did more googling and found Topeak Ridecase. Bonus is there's a waterproof version. Bonus even more is that it actually screws in to the stem rather than banding on to the frame (even though i've seen the weight test and the Quad Lock is impressive.
So looking at a good mount that doesn't cost the earth and there's a good waterproof casing for it.
Anyone reading this tried out the Quad Lock and Topeak? Anyone reading this can jump in with another brand that is better?

It sits on the cross bar just behind the front tube and is secured with velcro straps.
It is similar to this.
That would work unless you really need to see your phone as you cycle.
I can't fault the quad lock system, I have the poncho, but have never used it, although it looks like it couldn't go wrong.
My only question would be, do you need it if you don't cycle much?
I don't need an iPhone, but i have one.
I don't need a car with a 1.8 engine, i could get from A-B in a 1.0 old banger of a car
So on & so forth.
Not trying to be funny with that but i'm sure you get the point. I'd just like the phone up front really, in view, rather than in an arm case or a bag for example.
My wife will cycle more than me. During the better weather she'll be cycling to work and she would make use of it then.
I don't know what their latest designs are like.

I have the BioLogic case on a mountain bike, and it's been fine even when I'm travelling fast over rough ground.
Also, the case protects the phone, so even if it did fall off, the phone itself would almost certainly escape damage.

And so on...
You asked a question.
So i asked a question too.
Your question is allowed ... yet mine is called 'criticism'?
R.I.P. Logic
Perhaps bounce out is the wrong word, perhaps consider a bike accident where you hit something like a tree or indeed on the road, a car hits you - phone is going to go splat, perhaps less likely in the back pocket rather than stuck on the front. I don't see the need for it personally, asking for distraction having the phone there

Some people complain about hard items in back pockets in case you fall off and get injured by the item.
Having a phone on a mount allows you to use it on the go. So you can follow maps for instance. Battery life can be an issue for long rides though.
Of limited use to the OP, but I have a Garmin on a mount, with my phone in my back pocket. Text messages to the phone are shown on my Garmin screen.
