Default notice

Hi everyone
I declared bankruptcy 9 May 2018. I have had my telephone interview and the bankruptcy order has been issued. One of my creditors is American Express who I owe just over £9000. I have received a default notice from them stating that they will serve notice on me after 14 days demanding payment of the outstanding amount. They also state that my account may be referred to a debt collection agency and if I fail to pay any outstanding amount after a written demand for payment they may take legal proceedings against me. Needless to say this has caused me great anxiety. Should I advise the OR and will they carry out their threat of legal proceedings and should I expect bailiffs knocking on my door. I have no assets pf any kind so would be unable to comply with their demands. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi dont worry, you are now bankrupt and there is nothing they can do. You could ring american express and just quote your bankruptcy number although i seem to remember that your not supposed to speak to any debtors, saying that i know that i spoke to a few who were hounding me. Bottom line you are now safe from any debt collectors or bailiffs.
    Good luck

Yep, your bankruptcy is a complete defence to any action they might take.

I think I would scribble my bankruptcy number on the letter and send it back.

    Hi
Thank you for both postings. I am very relieved by what you have said. I just needed to check as letters like that are very intimidating.
    Thanks again.

Will just be a standard computer generated default notice sent out as your account was on the verge of defaulting.

It will not take account of your Bankruptcy order which covers all your debts.

Do not be surprised if some of your accounts are sold on and chased by other debt collectors, happens a lot.

American Express tend to be aggressive, but as said ultimately the bankruptcy robs them of any real bite.
