There are a whole range of possibilities here.

    - Perhaps the sellers no longer want to sell?
    - Perhaps the sellers can't find a property to buy?
    - Perhaps the sellers are trying to get a better price?
    - Perhaps the sellers are on a long holiday?

If the sellers are not communicating, it may be that the EA can't fix this. I think you just have to start viewing other properties.

If the sellers are finally ready to proceed, great. But there is every chance that if you stick with this property you'll still be in the same position in 6 months time.

That does put rather a different perspective on it for me. I thought you were talking 2-3 months. If it is only a couple of weeks, they probably just have not found anything yet. Of course, they could have found there is nothing out there good enough to make them want to move at this time but it does sound as if it is early days yet.

Another vote for G_M's suggestion to light a (small) fire under the EA's backside... Anything to make them do some actual work is fine by me. They are all going down where it's hot, anyway. :D

    Haha!

Just to be clear it is 3 weeks of being unable to contact them out of two months of them searching (or not I wouldn't know!) for a property. We've had very little communication over those two months because the EA can't get them to reply to phone calls. I can totally understand if they haven't been able to find a suitable property I just want them to be communicative about it. It makes me feel like they don't care we're just left hanging. I worry that they think because we're renting we'll hang on forever when in reality we have our own deadlines even if we aren't in a chain. They have had a total of 3 months from putting their house on the market to put an offer in on anything, as far as I know they haven't made any offers, I only know they've viewed two houses in the last two months. They may have viewed more, they may be very dedicated to selling but I wouldn't know because they won't bloody tell us :rotfl:

Gosh this house buying thing is fun isn't it? :p

Indeed. The exact words I said to the EA when they accepted the offer is "we won't be here in 6months time"!

The house we are viewing tomorrow is chain free, it is looking like a strong contender from the photos and details. Would feel a bit guilty for pulling out without giving them a chance to rectify the situation but unfortunately they've left us stewing too long and the good feelings have fizzled out. We need to make sure we have a home to live in come October when our rental agreement has ended.

Jaffapig, I wish you luck, I really do. You come across as an eminently reasonable person to me and I see no reason for you to feel so much as a pang of guilt for pulling out of an agreement with such uncommunicative people. They may have a perfectly valid reason for so being but you would think one of them could have found two minutes to let the EA know something, even if one of them has died (heaven forbid)

Many apologies, I am about to vent and digress. I crave your indulgence, Jaffapig, all.

Would you believe it? I found a house I really wanted to go and see earlier this week; the first one I have seen since we moved well over five years ago that has not made me feel we would be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. Now, when we might actually, finally have a chance of getting rid of the Chav from Hell the other side of the aptly named party wall.

OH was not so keen. He has done a hell of a lot of work to this place in that time. It was barely habitable when we bought it. Needless to say, the house has gone already but it did give me a glimmer of hope that, even though we are now back on the bottom rung, there might just be something out there for us one day, rather than this panic buy we live in now.

Vent over, very sorry. Keep viewing, Jaffapig, the right one is out there for you, somewhere. Would be interested to know how your search progresses, if you care to share. Thanks. :)

Aw that's lovely of you to say, thank you :)

Eek! Everyone's worst nightmare. I hope you get out of there one day (or Chav from Hell moves on and leaves you in peace). Keep your hope alive!

Well isn't it funny how quickly one's vendors can pick up the phone when they're told you're pulling out of the sale!

Sadly they'd lost our good faith by this point and we are committed to following through with the offer we've had accepted on the property we saw last week :)

The old vendors/EA came back to us to say they wanted to "conclude immediately" but the fact is the new house is vacant and chain free and hopefully very committed to selling as a consequence. The head says go with the new house and even the heart has followed suit... the new house is a bit smaller but the garden is absolutely fab and that was my number 1 priority. The location is just as good as previous house and the price is much more comfortable for us as well.

The old house is still listed as sold STC so not really sure what they're expecting there!

So thanks for the advice all :) fingers crossed this will just pan out now. Mortgage application is in, solicitor is in gear... could be in by the end of July if we're lucky!

PS. I received an email prior to all this activity from the old EA saying they believed the vendors were avoiding their calls. I mean as an EA you don't say things like that unless you really mean it right? :rotfl: Fantastic way to terrify your buyers..

    Well done!

We have been waiting for nearly 6 weeks for our vendors to fimd somewhere. Unfortunately for us the estate agent is purple bricks so cant call or email for updates (they don't respond) I Do have the vendors home phone number though so once our sale is progressing ill call him a couple of times of week and pester!

Can you message the vendors direct at all through the Purple Bricks website? Good luck!

Our 'new' house is through Purple Bricks and we've found the EA surprisingly helpful considering I didn't even realise they had agents to begin with :rotfl: she seemed remarkably honest (I hope) at the viewing. Perhaps there's less incentive to maximise purchase price with them.
