How to avoid theft of personal items in private hospital?

I don't suppose there's really an answer to this one (apart from avoiding taking a mobile in with you) but in case someone's found a solution I'll ask the question.
A relative's going into a private (BMI) hospital shortly under the NHS. She wants to avoid the usual sky-high charges for the use of the phone and data so wants to take her own smartphone in with her.
Obviously, there's a risk attached to that - notably theft while she's undergoing surgery.
Has anybody found a way round that? I'm assuming lockable cabinets in private rooms aren't likely.

get her a really crappy handset she doesn't mind losing and leave the £900k iphone at home

Our local private hospital has a safe in the cupboard in each room. I can't remember if it is keypad or key operated. I know one Spire private hospital has key operated safes with the key attached to a large safety pin that you are asked to pin to your theatre gown.

When I've had surgery in a private hospital the rooms themselves had locks and the room was locked when I wasn't in it.0

Simple. Bring the phone to her post-op.
I hate it when patients bring in a ton of stuff and expect us to sit watch on it.0 -
