Should I chase recruitment agency again?

Hi Everyone

Looking for some advice... again!

Thought I'd give a background to the problem (hope I haven't waffled on too much)

Just over a month ago I applied for a job through a recruitment agency. The agency are the only ones that deal with this particular company, so the job isn't advertised everywhere online meaning that they only get a limited amount of applicants. Within the same week I was asked to go for an interview at the company I'd applied for.

I had the interview on 26th April and was fairly confident and thought everything had gone well. The area I work in is quite specific and knew not that many people had applied for the role (I think they were only interviewing one other person).

I emailed the agency after the interview to let them know how it went etc and they replied and said they would let me know when they heard back from the company.

A week later (3rd May) I hadn't heard anything so I emailed the agency and asked if they'd heard anything back/been given any feedback, and they responded saying they had heard back, but they hadn't reached a decision yet. They also said it remained very positive and that they would contact me as soon as they heard anything else. I didn't hear anything back from them.

Last week (16 May) another role was advertised on the agency website, so I emailed them and asked if I could be put forward. I wasn't as keen on this role but it was more to see if they got back to me and said anything about the other role as I didn't want to seem like I was chasing them too much. I received an email back with them apologising for not being in touch. They said they had chased the company a couple of times but hadn't heard anything back as of yet. They also gave me more details on the other role and asked if I would like to be put forward.

My question now is... do I chase them again??

Either way, the company would let the agency know because they work very closely together in recruitment so I don't see what's taking them so long? This is a company that I really want to work for which is why I'm feeling so agitated about the situation.

To me, 4 weeks to hear back from a first interview seems like a very long time, but I don't want to be really annoying by chasing them.

Any advice???

Four weeks seems a long time to you, quite understandably. Unfortunately in the corporate world the feelings and anxieties of job applicants tend to come second to what those already working in the business see as more pressing matters!

Don't start applying for other jobs in the same company as a way of 'nudging' the recruitment company - you'll just confuse matters and also dilute how keen you are on the original role.

Grit your teeth and give it until Friday, then ring the agency, who are probably feeling as frustrated by this as you are. If they still haven't heard, agree a timeframe when you can ring them again.

Do hope you get the job.

    I feel your pain.

I went for an interview on the 26th said would hear back on the Monday or Tuesday of the following week. I’ve not heard a sickie bird since, called HR and they say a hiring decision hasn’t been made yet and so no ones been notified.

It’s really fraustrating as you don’t want to keep mithering them.
