Debt agency refused settlement - advice please.

Hi there, apologies if I'm on the wrong forum. This is my first ever post so please bear with me.
My husband pays off some debts (left by his ex wife but in his name) through a DMP that he has been paying off for over 10 years.
We recently were gifted with a small aount of money so we are keen to pay off these debts.
His two biggest debts (app. £3000 each) are both with HFC through different debt collection agencies. On advice taken from MSE, he has offered 50% settlement amounts to both. The one accepted but the other declined as apparently they have a charge on his mortgage. He reoffered an extra £300 but they have still declined his offer.
We can not offer anymore as we simply do not have it at the moment.
Can anyone offer advice on this matter please? We are keen to become debt free and don't like the idea of having a charge on the mortgage as we would like to transfer it into both our names.
Thanks in advance.

You'll just need to pay in installments until the debt is cleared.
With a charge on the house, there is little incentive to accept a settlement.0 -

If they have a charging order on his property they are guaranteed to get their £3000 at some point in the future,Roadrunner1997 wrote: ».... We are keen to become debt free and don't like the idea of having a charge on the mortgage as we would like to transfer it into both our names....
They've guessed that. That's why they want more.0
