I went for a manual when driving abroad for the first time. I was going to go for auto, but my husband pointed out that driving on the opposite side of the road and the opposite side of the car was enough 'new' elements for my first time.
However, when I was there, I was comfortable with the whole thing (although more vigilant) within half an hour of driving so i think i'd have been fine with automatic.
You'll be fineJust take it easy and keep your wits about you.
