As title suggests, I'm in the process of choosing a sofa from Next, who offer free fabric samples, like most other furnishing companies do. I've been trying to order 2 of these samples, but
unlike most other companies, Next for some reason will not let you go through checkout without card details (and also age!!??) I tried going on chat but no go; they say payment details are required to "authenticate your address."
I do (or did) actually plan to buy a sofa from them, but really need to see the fabrics / colours before I make a final choice..
Sheesh, as if companies don't already have enough information on us! All I want is two small squares of fabric!
Has anyone else come across this?

If you are planning on buying a sofa from them anyway you will be giving your card details so you may as well register with them now and get your fabric samples.

Yes, frequently. It reduces the number of people who just mindlessly order samples with no real intention of buying. Sending out 'a small square of fabric' isn't as cheap as it sounds after you take into account the time/packing/postage involved.

I sometimes buy dolls house miniatures from e-bay.

A large range of 'dolls house carpets' caught my eye - not because I wanted to buy them, but because I was sure I had seen them somewhere else.

I had. They were 'free' furniture fabric samples supplied by M&S.
