Does anyone know of any nice restaurants in the newtownabbey area, it has to be simple plain english food and not too expensive.

If you don't mind going down to Carrick, then you should give Springsteen's a try. I know they're an American Diner, but do excellent burgers and chicken burgers which you can keep plain. Good chips or wedges etc too.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

Yes have you tried Greenacres golf club off Ballyrobert road? They do lovely food, have a beat the clock menu and a great cheap sunday menu. Well worth a visit!

The Bellevue Arms serves gorgeous food. Thunderdome, Pizzerella cafe (Alfresco?) all in Glengormley are nice too.
Barnabys as someone else mentioned in Ballyrobert. Corrs Corner is also quite nice.
The Bureau in Whiteabbey village is nice too.

There's the Thunder Dome Cafe on the road opposite the Cinema - American Diner type of thing. Only been once but it was pretty good. Massive portions as well!
Edit: Forgot about the Bellevue - heard good reports about it since it was done up but not been yet myself.0 -
The Bureau in Whiteabbey on the Shore Road is very good. Better than The Bellevue in my opinion.
Also, I've only been to the Thunderdome once but it was very poor. What was supposed to be a tender chicken fillet was so tough I could barely cut it and the fillet itself was quite small. I'd say both the chicken and the sweet chilli sauce came from Iceland across the road!

Used to go to Thunderdome until they charged me £1.10 for an extra slice of toast to finish my pate! Havn't been back since.
Also agree the Bar menu & food at the Bureau is great, with lovely big sofa's (if you can get one) for relaxing after your meal0
