OH has been in the new job a month now, we've (just this weekend) bought a second car, and we're almost there with booking the home improvements; waiting on the plastering quote as we struggled to get hold of him for a while.

I've taken £9k off the MBNA card as a money transfer (cost £450) and I've just about come to terms with it now. This is interest free until September 2023 or something like that, and it paid for the car and will cover the decorating. The car is a 2011 BMW X1; despite the advice to avoid an older BMW as the diesels are dirty, once OH had confirmed what he wanted our budget didn't leave a lot of choices - it was basically that or a Volvo XC90 which is far too big. Hopefully we've bought a good one; it goes into my garage on Thursday for a once over and service.

Home improvements so far are just under £1500 for the flooring (we got a roll end for the stairs/landing, and the laminate was pretty much the cheapest option), £850 for the decorators excluding paint, we skipped the electrician as decided we'd be redoing the lot if we extend anyway, and waiting on the plastering quote. I've also finally ordered that fabric for the blinds and cushions, but will probably need to come up with something for the conservatory sliding doors. Looks like it'll be a case of buying fabric for that and DIY new panel blinds to keep costs down there too.

The budget is a little tight, but we're managing and not having to sacrifice too much. The second car will really be useful, and I think having the hallways/living room done will be a weight off my shoulders so whilst I would've rather not had to use credit, I don't regret the decision to go ahead with either.
