i have been using a proper yorkshire pud tray lately with 6 sections!!

my recipe is from my mum, its the same as i use to make pancakes too,
i make yorkshire regulary at least once a week so know it off by heart now!!

    100gram plain flour
    1/4 pint milk
    1/4 pint water
    2 eggs
    pinch of salt
this is enough to fill each section in the tray with a bit to spare.

put oil in each section filling the bottom and put in oven for a few mins till hot! carefully remove from oven and spoon in the mixture, oven approx 190c for about 20 mins

the only thing i would like to know is can you freeze any spare mix as i always have a bit spare and end up throwing it away!!
I love War Of The Worlds:heart2:

Since it's the same batter as that for pancakes - why not plan on pancakes for pud? Or make them and freeze them to save for one of those days when you get a case of "The Munchies" and need a quick fix :)

    WELL DONE!!!

I ALWAYS use Brian Turners way after finding the recipe, only occasioanlly vary with half water half milk if I am short of milk, downside is my first attempt with them they hit the top of the oven and caught fire because I didn't expect them to rise and had the shelf too high :o

The very same thing happened to me the first time I used his recipe, they stuck to the top of the oven and caught fire.I have now learned to drop the shelf. They are lovely though and my old gran could'nt have made them any better, and she had a reputation for her yorkshires.
  • We eat quite a lot of brocolli, and as I am trying to throw out the minimum of food waste (peelings etc), I saved 4 brocolli stalks and made soup with them.

I also went to co-op today and they had ham reduced from £4 to £1.25. Full price was on bogof so I bought 2 packs and hoped - and YEAH even reduced it was bogof, so I bought 6 packs of 8 slices of danepack ham for £3.75 - all sitting in freezer for next 3 weeks.

Have started measuring pasta and rice before cooking to cut down on leftovers (unless I specifically have planned to use them), its quite scarey how much less I am cooking - and eating - will do the diet good though.

So, I am plodding along one day at a time, focusing on the little things that will make a difference - and it seems to be working.

So, hope you all having good day, and hope I have posted this in the right place - if not please move it and I will know where to post next time.

  • Well done! :j

I've been trying to cut down on waste too, mainly through buying&cooking less.

We never used to throw much out anyway, as the dog hoovered up anything left over- he's looking much hungrier these days lol! :D

Same here - it does seem like a little effort like measuring really does make a huge difference. When I think of the days when I used to cook way too much and throw the rest away

Well done mummymoo. I find that if you measure once and then work out which cereal bowl/mug/jug full you need for pasta/rice etc then it's easy next time. And I'm one of those people who just buys the heads of the broccolli:o

    I've been Money Tipped!
Ie really been thinking hard on where I can save the pennies on the food bill and the biggest thing that sticks out is the amount of food that is either thrown out because its past its best or thrown to the dog to get rid of it. I will then buy practically the same things the next week and so the circle continues!

So last night we had gammon for tea (on offer in morrisons for £5) with roasted veggies, including 2 peppers which were about to turn and I would have thrown out

The gammon i cut in thinner slices than I normally would and found i had loads left. Usually I would pop this in the fridge for sandwiches the following day and the dog would bonus the rest.
But today i have made a gammon and onion suet roll for tea tonight. I had some suet pastry left over so added some cooked sausages and beans and made a second roll for tomorrow's dinner.

There was still some gammon left so i have made a gammon and egg pie for tomorrow's tea which I just need to add potatoes to the top and bake.

Yesterday I saw we had some bananas that were starting to go black so I made two banana loafs. Which were enjoyed by everyone, crept myself and I have had to make two more today.

Im feeling very impressed with my self now!
