Redundancy-Help

Hi
My wife work in a care home and it is eminent that it is going to be closed down very soon. She is hoping that the management would give staff the notice next few days. Under british law what is the entitlement of a worker when it comes to redundancy.
Does the staff entitle for any compensation?
Can the management not pay any compensation?
Thanks very much

    Hi
This is the link to the Department of Trade and Industry website which gives details of workers rights regarding redundancy.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Definately have a read of the link as it outlines everything you will experience and what you ned to do.

My dad went through this last year. It could take some time to get your payouts so makesure you prepare for that.

If the home cannot pay, don't worry because you can claim via the DTI

You will then need to specify any holiday owing, rates of pay, any payment owing etc...then of course there is the 3 months notice which you may be part paid if you continue to work for the home. If they just release you, it will be a lump sum. So, don't throw any P60's, wage slips out right now.

The site should help you calculate your expected payout. However, check your contract as well because some companies pay additional bonuses in redundancy which you could get.

Hope it all gos smoothly for you. My dad had to make a few phonecalls to chase things up, fill in the odd form and then it took about 3 months to gte the payout.
