technology has left me behind I discovered when I went out to get a recorder. My video recorder of 18 years has now decided its time to hang up its boots, so I need a new one, only they are all dvd recorders.
Never mind me thinks cant be that difficult to work out which one I want.
Boy was I wrong!
Nice young man in the shop tried to sell me one for £250 odd, not paying that, argos have some cheep ones but are they any good
Do you get what you pay for? All I want to do is record one programme whilst watching another and maybe a timer.
Thanks in advance

Does it have to be a DVD recorder, or would a PVR be an option?Dave. :wave:0

whats a pvr?0

Stands for Personal Video Recorder.
Records your programs onto a Hard Disk instead of onto a DVD.
Do a search for PVR or have a look here.Dave. :wave:0 -
What about your video tapes? Will you discard them or put them on to DVD?
You can buy a a Freeview HDD recorder of sorts for £50. This will allow you to record one channel whilst watching another or record to two channels at one.
If you want a combined unit, so that you can put your VHS videos on DVD or just watch them, that will cost a little more.
So, think about your needs and we'll steer you from there.0 -
having read that link, i think a dvd recorder would be better then I can give them to my kids at uni as they dont have any means of recording.
Don't know if it makes a differance but I have only 5 channels on my tele and an indoor ariel but it gets very good signal.0 -
Dont need to keep anything on the videos.
and dont have freeview0 -
I bought a Panasonic EZ25, it may well have been superseded now but its very good.
If you are buying a DVD recorder make sure it has a built in freeview tuner (to future proof yourself).
A popular choice is to get one with a built in HDD on which you can store most of your recordings and then transfer them to disk at your leisure. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
DVD recorders start from around £50.

I would look into Freeview, as it gives a lot more choice...and it's free.
A combined unit is easier to program in advance, but they are more expensive. Around £150.
A seperate Freeview box is only £10 to £30.0 -
