Train ticket price confusion

Check the price at the station, then go on your phone and order online and then print off at machine?
How quickly after making a booking can I collect my tickets from a Self service ticket machine?
If you have chosen to collect your tickets from a Self service ticket machine they will be ready for collection 2 hours after purchase.
...and I assume other companies say something similar.
Now I've no idea why they quote such a lengthy delay, perhaps they're just playing safe? I have successfully collected tickets around an hour after purchase, but I've no idea how quickly they typically become available.
I guess m-Tickets should work:

though they don't appear to be available everywhere as yet.Stompa0 -

Thanks for the suggestion but the email I got from South Eastern said I'd need to wait 30 mins and seems a bit of a faff to go to the machines twice.
I'm happy to purchase on-line now I know not all tickets are on offer. This time I purchased them the day before, but I guess purchasing them in the morning before travel would be optimum as that would cater for feeling unwell on the day.0
