Claiming tax rebate on own clothes - affect benefits?

Hi all,
Just a quick one to say that I am thinking of putting a poster up at my place of work to encourage people to claim the tax rebate for washing their own work clothes. Should I include a line about how changing their tax code could impact on any benefits that they are claiming?

I doubt the extra £12 a year in the pocket is going to have much effect benefits !

Does your employer not automatically claim this for you, if not why not ?

I'd be more concerned about the wording you are using when you refer to it as "washing own work clothes" considering the tax relief relates only to uniforms, not "work clothes".

Many people would interpret the latter as meaning the clothes they wear to work, and that is very far from being what is allowed.

In what context are you doing this? Is this an "official" communication or just a note you're putting up as a mate? Are you their manager and could it be taken to be advice from the company?

If it is from you in a work capacity please speak to your HR department about your responsibility to make people aware of other impacts.

If you're just doing it because you've found out about it and want to share the knowledge, I'd still check work are OK with this but it is down to the individuals to check if it has any other effects. It's still fine to warn them about it, but all I'm saying is that if it is official you will have greater responsibilities to do so.
