Halifax taken payment for old mortgage AND new mortgage in the same month?

Hi

We moved house on 27th April and have stayed with Halifax, our mortgage has increased from £355 per month to £760. On the 1st May Halifax took £355 from my bank even though I didn't live in the old house anymore and today they have taken £817?! I only expected to pay one amount of £817 this month (£760 + extra for the few days we owned the house in April).

Do you think Halifax owe me the £355 back or does it normally work that way when you move (Money in lew even though I thought mortgages were paid in advance??)

Grateful for any help!!!

The "old" payment will be refunded to your account within a couple of weeks, assuming the redemption figure was based on last payment being made in April and not May which would be normal.
