The amount a bank are allowed to charge you for unpaid direct debits?
a friend has just said that the law changed on this from april the maximum was only £12 ? well nationwide just charged me £30 last mnth and a further £60 next mnth for 2 unpaid direct debits again.... please help.. i only get income support

They can charge what they want. The "£12" thing is something that's been reported in the media as what may end up being the charge if the banks lose the "bank charges" court case.
So no, the law hasn't changed and yes, you can be charged £30 a time. You'd be better off cancelling the direct debits and saving the fees - they won't be getting paid anyway.0 -
