Problem is getting a balance between quality and price! And obv here at MSE we'd go for price.

In terms of what I've used and friends have said, reliable brands are usually:
    -Hotpoint or Creda
    -LG
    -Smeg
    -AEG
    -Miele

    To avoid:
    -Beko
    -Servis
    -Hoover

I think overall I favour Hotpoint in terms of reliability against cost. I have a problem with buying Bosch products but i find they break easily (not mechanically as such, but dials and handles/buttons etc...) I'd probably look at Hotpoint washer/dryer as Im sure you can get them for £300-£350

Yes avoid beko i bought one first one lasted a week second one lasted 17 months good job i took extra warrenty on it !!
Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out - but I can usually shut her up with cake!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I would avoid Hotpoint and its associated companies like the plague, in 5 years we have had 2 dishwashers, and 2 washers from them, the second washer bolts that hold the drum down sheered off after 13 months, Hotpoint wouldnt repair them unless we took out warranty when we complained they didnt want to know even though bolts just shouldnt snap.

    Rant over :)

Anyway replaced one of the dish washers with a Siemens one from John Lewis earlier in the year and they gave us a full 5 year warranty with it, something they do quite often so the little bit extra we paid for it was saved with the warranty
