Will I still need a sub-prime remortgage?

When my partner and I took out our mortgage 2 years ago we had to go for a first national, light adversity one. We have now come to the end of our 2 year fixed rate and would like to look elsewhere to see if we can get a better rate.Initially we had to go sub prime because my partner had had 2 CCJ's which were satisfied 13 months before the start of our mortgage and I had had numerous defaults/ late payments on store cards etc, also prior to commencing the mortgage.Since then we have paid our mortgage on time for 2 years and the only payment issues have been a few late payments for things like mobile phone bills etc - more down to disorganisation rather than money problems! What do you all think? can we now go high street? Also first national advised we will have to pay 1% to exit the mortgage early but have quoted us a figure of £3500, which isn't 1%! can anyone shed any light on this as well? Many thanks

It sounds like the CCJs should not be a problem with some lenders, seeing as it is over 3 years since they were satisfied and probably longer since they were registered.
Do you have an overhang with your deal? Is that why they will charge a 1% fee to leave? Some lenders have this fee even with no overhang period, however they will waive that fee if you give them 1 months written notice - have a look on your offer letter to see what it says.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
