Default that Doesn't Exist

I have two defaults on my credit report, one for TSB and the other for RBS. I contacted them both in November last year to arrange repayments (because I was in a better position financially).
TSB advised me that in September this year the account would be six years defaulted and would be removed from my credit report, and not to bother paying anything. I agreed to that.
The RBS account apparently defaulted in 2015, but when I phoned RBS they had no record of the account, couldn't find anything on it, and basically told me not to worry about it. It's for £500 and I don't mind paying it (or not) I just want to improve my credit score and get rid of it, and it won't hit the six year mark until 2021. Should I raise a dispute with Noddle since RBS says they debt doesn't exist?

You're improving your credit history, not the made up score or rating.
Does it show on any other CRA's? Experian and Equifax?
If so raise as a dispute with all 3 and ask for it to be removed.
Regards the TSB one - how much is it for?
If it's quite sizeable then someone else may look at it and decide to issue a CCJ against it, and "they told me on the phone to ignore it" won't stand up for it being cancelled.0 -
I believe TSB can still try and recover the debt up until the 6 year mark. Sounds like its not something they will do but be wary they can do it.
As for the RBS default, not worrying about it is a head in the sand approach. If they took that much of a lax attitude towards it i would be pushing for it to be removed. Theres procedure they have to follow issuing a default notice and going off what youve said about knowledge of your account from 3 years ago, id be thinking its the best route to take.
Youll need to ask them for all information regarding the default. If they can not provide you with this then i would be asking them to remove the default as they will struggle to produce evidence that it was applied lawfully. Obviously if they do your back at square one with a default until 2021. Again this is something they can reclaim up until the 6 year mark, so they can claim a few months before the final date, if you cant pay (usually all in one go) they can go to court and have a CCJ issued against you. This will go on your credit file and basically reset the clock on having a bad credit file from the date of the CCJ being issued.
Noddle wont remove a default. It has to be done through the original lender. You can add correction notices (a comment from you to explain something) but in reality it doesnt carry any weight.
If you havent already check the other credit reference agencies so you can see what all lenders can see about you.0
