Help to Buy or not?

Son is looking to make first house purchase and I am going to help by providing some of the deposit which will mean LTV will be below 60%.
I understand the Help to Buy scheme but wondering if it is worth going down this route to avoid me having to put quite as much deposit down from hard earned cash or whether the benefits of avoiding the HTB scheme outweigh using it where possible?
