    Does your loan have early repayment charges on it? If not, I'd apply for 0% on purchases credit card, pay minimum on that every month and then pay the money towards the loan - obviously you'd then effectively transfer the balance to your credit card, but at least it would be on 0%.

    Also sign up for MSE Credit Club if you haven't already, you can check your chances of getting a CC in there before applying without affecting your credit score.

    Is £500 a proper calculation of half the costs? If the children are not yours is it right that you pay half? Great to be generous when you can but at the moment you can't look after other people,
