I feel awful for you OP .. You have basically been robbed

Do you not have any decent sized male friends/family that could go and "persuade" him to give your money back ?

 I hope you are joking! That could get the poster and her friends into serious trouble!

Unfortunately, if you didn't work much during these 6 months so that he supported you financially during this period, he could very easily say that you agreed to give him this money to compensate for what he had paid, which could be plausible. Of course, it depends what he spent the £7,500 on.

Also, do you have an account at all. If not, you might be able to defend, on the basis of being vulnerable, that you put it there because you had nowhere else to, but if you do have your own bank account, that would be more difficult to justify.

I'm sad you,ve lost this money but I suspect you have no chance of getting it back if he won't play fair.
Put it down to bitter experience and try and get some help in learning to manage your money better. There is plenty of advice on these forums.

Going forward, if you have any spare money immediately put it away in a savings account where you wont easily be able to get your hands on it and never trust other people with your money, especially people who you have only known for a very-short time .

Lots of pessimistic responses, but you can either TRY and get it back or just give up.

    Personally I would try...

You need to WRITE to him, sending it with proof of postage asking for the money back within 28 days, otherwise you will take legal action to retrieve the money.

    Dear <EX>,
On DATE I inherited £10000 from PERSON.
As I am not good at managing money, you suggested that it would be sensible if the money was put in your bank account. This was done on DATE.
As we are no longer together since DATE, I now require this money returning to me.
Please return the full amount of £10000 to me via bank transfer within the next 28 days.
If this money is not returned within the 28 days, I shall start legal proceedings to retrieve the money via the courts.
This is a letter before action sent 1st class with proof of postage, so will be deemed served from (date two days after posting)
    Kind regards,
    YOU

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Good advice from Pinkshoes. I realise that this situation will be making you feel ill, but you should try to do what you can to recover your money. Solicitors will often meet with you for free for upto half an hour, and given your situation, you may find that they offer some support to help you challenge your ex.

At the very least he should be giving you all of the remaining money.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

I would sent the letter recorded delivery, therefore it would come across as more official.

The advice to just get proof of posting is based on the fact that if a letter requires a signature, the receiver can refuse to accept it. On the other hand, a letter is deemed to have arrived two days after you posted it, if you can prove you posted it.
Signature removed for peace of mind

The op signed off the minute after posting and hasn't logged back on since.

Not sure what more anyone can add without clarification.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
