    Misleading thread title.
'The pitfalls of Shared Ownership' would be more appropriate.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.
  • I agree that the title is, intentionally, misleading. That said I am a firm believer that it's better to own a percentage of something than zero of nothing.

So she own's 30% of a leasehold flat. Agree can't really call that owning a home. I don't even get "owning" a leasehold 100% as it's never really yours. Luckily live in Scotland.

"I've also loved being able to put my own flair on the place for the first time ever. The financial and freedom sacrifices are worth being able to come home and call it mine." This is supposed to be whinging?

Further proof, if proof be need be, that it's boomers and genexers who are the real Snowflake Generation. Millennials just get on with life while their parents p--- and moan about how nobody keeps a stiff uppper lip anymore. Genexers write handwringing articles in the Guardian about how millennials can't afford to buy houses, millennials just save up and buy houses.

Owning 30% of a leasehold flat yet she pays for all repairs by herself? What a con.

She probably does close to 100% of the damage herself too.

Until the finance company gets to come round and do their laundry there and use the toilet then 100% seems fair.

Never really considered shared ownership for (mostly) that reason. You get all the downsides of ownership alongside the downsides of renting.

The upside is that you're basically making a highly leveraged investment in a property, and that could go wrong...
