Investing in an expensive pen?

Hey guys!
I was wondering if I should invest in an expensive pen. Why I name it 'invest' and not 'spend'? -Well, I'm talking about a Montblanc pen. On the one hand, it is not necessary to own or buy such an expensive pen but on the other hand, it looks very classy. Even though we live in 2018, it is still a status symbol, isn't it?
Of course, I'm not part of this 'class', who just own a Montblanc like it ain't nothing but at least I can pretend to
What do you think?

I think anyone who thinks they need an expensive pen so that they can look "classy" has got their priorities completely wrong0 -
What does it matter what anyone else thinks? If you can afford something which means a lot to you, it's your decision.0

You can get Mont Blanc pens for about £150 so not exactly break the bank expensive. Unless you're signing big corporate contracts or finance deals who exactly is going to see this pen? Surely buying an expensive watch to look 'classy' is a better option as an invest and more people will see it
But what really shows 'class' is it a shiny over priced pen or simply having manners, being polite and treating people with respect??This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Are you going to write with it? A quality fountain pen will last you decades.
Are you going to show off with it? Something like Porsche Design might be more effective at impressing the sort of person who is label-aware.
Are you going to keep it for the possibility of selling later for a profit? You'll need to get a limited edition one at £500 plus and keep it pristine for decades.I need to think of something new here...0 -
Comes to a moneysaving website to tell us he can afford a Montblanc pen - sad!0

I was bought a classic Mont Blanc len a few years ago as a gift from a broker. It is nice, but I never use it, I find that I prefer a far cheaper fountain pen that I bought myself.
There is not reason not to spend some of your money on nice things if it makes you happy (no-one seems to criticise a woman for having some nice jewellery, do they?), but please do not buy it to impress other people. On the rare occasions that I use it in public anyone who notices tends to think it is bit silly.0 -

Well, I suspect most of the good stuff we have have been gifted to us. Most of mine is cheap costume jewellery from Claire's or M&S.
But the rest of your comment is spot on. My day to day use of a Pilot fineline pen will impress no one but it's much more of a pleasure if that comes to hand instead of some other generic rollerball pen. They do go astray though, so I'd be no good with an expensive pen (or ear-rings for that matter!).0
