Private scans help?

Hi
Could anybody give me any info about private scans or where i can get further info from?
I had a slipped disc in my lumba spine and neck around 5 years ago then around 2 years ago the one in my spine happened again and over te weekend just passed i feel its happened again.im unable to get in to see a doctor for nearly 3 weeks but when iv seen them in the past they just want to put me on pain killers,as much as that dampens down the pain it is not solving the issue.
I also have a shoulder injury that i havnt been able to get to the bottom of yet and was really wondering if i can get a scan on my spine and shoulder.

    What 'scan' would you like?

'Scans' are pointless unless they are likely to change treatment- if the end result will be painkillers anyway, there is no point in imaging your back.

Thankyou for your helpfull post,i would have thought an mri scan,if a condition was diagnosed i would then be able to look at actually the issue sorted rather than just keep masking it woth pain killers.

Have you tried acupuncture? It works very well for some people.

I had a course of 6 a couple of months ago for arthritis in my thumb joints and met someone who had damaged his back and neck in an accident and said it was the only thing that worked and made a massive difference.

I!!!8217;m not sure if you can get it on the NHS, it depends where you live I think, but it may be worth trying if you can afford it.

A scan in isolation is not going to be much help, it needs to be interpreted and a course of treatment decided upon. Can you afford to see a consultant privately, and any follow up treatment?

You need to see a doctor (NHS or privately) who can decide:
    a) if you need a scan in the first place
    b) what type of scan you need if one is needed (and how urgently)
    c) what to do with the scan result once it's back

Back and shoulder pain is very common, back pain without numbness or pins and needles or problems with bladder or bowels is not in itself too worrying. The mainstay of treatment is physiotherapy and painkillers - you could be doing this whilst waiting to see a doctor (privately or on NHS), there's loads of YouTube videos and guides online. Pilates, backstroke swimming, yoga are all beneficial.

    Thankyou for this.
I have had around 20 sessions of physio on my back and shoulder and he has been brilliant and had got me to this point im at now but he has refered me back to my gp as he is not happy with a couple of things and said i need a scan to check for a few conditions.my gp has completly disregarded the physio report and the only thing the gp agrees with is that i have a pinched tendon in my shoulder but the physio said that is not causing him the concerns hes got.so this is why i was asking for prices of scans ect as my gp will not send me for one.

I will also have a look on yourube for said videos thankyou i appreciate that.
