Cost to build house

Hi all,
I was looking at building a house about 6 years ago and the cost was coming in around 70/sq ft for an average spec.
It didn't happen back then, but I'm revisiting the idea.
Any idea if self build costs have gone up much?
Thanks.

i think it depends on the finish
we got price for a modular timber frame house with block around last year and it came in at around 52 /sq ft
that was for a 2 storey house at 1981 sq ft0 -

woow! 52/sq ft. I guess that didn't include everything. Seem's awfully cheap! I was thinking about 90 to full finish with a reasonable spec.0 -
it was a modular set up, built in the factory with kitchens and bathrooms installed and then put together on site then the block built around.
we did go with this company, but due to a change in circumstances we just went with a modular bungalow with no block for now, but in the future i would use this company to build our other house.0 -

I think budget £90 per square foot and add an amount for contingency to the overall figure.
Dont forget to include a significant amount for siteworks. Nothing worse than a new build house sitting in the middle of a field with a hardcore drive because they ran out of money / didnt budget to finish it.
Back 8 years ago we budgetted £70 a sq foot, and it came in at around £75 sq foot.
Allowing for inflation thats around £90 or so a square foot.
We then spent a further £25,000 or so on siteworks.0
