Old Style Daily Monday 30th April 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone :hello:

I managed to fall asleep about 11.00pm yesterday only to be woken by the heavy rain and wind a couple of hours later. It sounded like something was blowing around the garden next door. It was forecast though and is set in for the day, so we did know it was coming.

I’ve watched a film and read for a while, and decided to have a wander around the internet while I have some tea and toast.

Another housework day today and then everything will be up to date. I need to paint the one wall in the entrance hall that I keep getting marks on that don’t wipe off when I come in. I have enough paint to do it this time and then I think I will get some vinyl silk emulsion and try that in the hope that it will wipe clean.

Other than that I don’t have anything planned today.

Judi I also chucked the photo album of my first husband at him, and he took it with him. I was lucky and found the complete album my mum and dad had bought when I and my brother were clearing out their house so I have got all of the photos of the family when we were much younger.

Silver-oldie and I love comps extra ((hugs)) you are both going through such a difficult and emotional time at the moment.

MrsSaladDays clearing out and selling what was a loved family home must be so hard for you. At least you can take all the memories with you.

Take care and have a good day everyone.

Morning Holly and all those who will be here later. I slept until 4 and have been pootling about on the net since then and drinking tea.

I have some house jobs to do today, nothing particularly onerous and not very interesting either.

I hope everyone has as good a day as possible
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone.

Last night I went to bed very early, fell, asleep quickly and slept soundly until now. The sky outside is extraordinary - layers of baby blue and pink with grey fog over the top and a big white moon behind.

This morning I'm teaching and then I have post a couple of parcels. Lunch will be a bowl of soup and a sandwich in the local museum.

I hope everyone is doing well or getting better. Happy Monday to all.
  • Morning folks. And thanks HOLLY. No rain forecast for us and yesterday the washing dried outside too. But by heck it was nippy and we had the fire on most of the day.

This morning middle DGD is doing a reading in her assembly and, as DD is working, we are going to support her. Then must pop in Aldi and get a few supplies on the way home. Mr TA is finding it hard to digest a lot of food and prefers soft stuff. It's difficult knowing what to make and what to put on the shopping list. Yesterday he coped with Shepherds Pie and there is a bit left to warm up for him for today. I am going to chase up his next Oncology appointment when we get back as he can't go on like this losing weight through eating so little.

His mobility is getting worse too and, since Christmas, he has slowed down drastically. I shall be glad when he has seen the Neurologist again in 2 weeks, even though I know nothing can be done. There are still lots of questions we need to ask. Life is a constant worry these days.

It has been hard work sorting the kitchen out by myself, dragging boxes around and up and down the steps to the top cupboards with stuff not used often. It worries him that he can't help and more and more is getting left for me to do. We used to share the jobs in his fitter days. The outside is a disgrace but that can wait.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, very breezy and air feels quite cold. Not raining at the moment but there is some forecast at some point today.

DH up and gone to work, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he's hopeful of pancakes for brekkie.

Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, carrots, cauli/broc cheese, peas, yorkshires and gravy, ice cream for dessert. Tonight we'll be having fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg as it's my long day on a Monday, and it's often busy and stressful.

Yesterday we chilled, although the menfolk, did get out in the garden whilst I prepped and cooked the lunch and pack ups. The garden is all planted up now - just have to hope the weather starts warming up soon. We'll be doing some more in the garden over this next weekend too.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Lovely sunny morning, not a cloud in the sky. There was a frost when I first got up, glad I haven't put any young plants in the garden yet.

Enjoyed the tennis again yesterday but sitting down for 2 days means not much of a step count! Cousin and her DH went off home yesterday, I left them in Glasgow so goodness knows where they are now!

Work today, 4 days and an in-service day on Friday - lovely job without children!

    Happy Monday! Take care. XX

    Morning all

Its like a winters day here :( 4 deg here and lashing with rain and blowing a gale, we ran out of logs in the shed so yesterday went to a local man and bought three bags to keep us going for a couple of days, I only hope the weather improves dramatically as its far too cold !

DD'd boyf made a lovely lasagne yesterday which we had for dinner with some salad and garlic bread, it was very tasty and there is loads left so we shall have the same tonight too so a very easy meal.

I have the cleaner coming for a looksee tonight it will be interesting to see how long she thinks it will take her, I must sy I am looking forward to her starting.

On the subject of neighbours arguing we used to have a couple at the back of us who had spectacular rows ! shouting and swearing like a navvy ! I think she used to hit him too, the police were often called, I used to go in the garden and do some weeding so I could hear better :o they have moved out now and its much quieter, but the new lady in there has her own story !!

Right I had better get on, have good days all xx

Morning all, it's bright here, but has rained, and it's probably cold. Yesterday was fine in the main, but a very cold wind spoiled it.
Thank you HH for starting off..
TA, I'm sorry to hear that life is such hard going at the moment. It's a constant worry when someone close has chronic health problems.

We went to Al*wick Gardens yesterday to see the cherry orchard in bloom, it was magnificent. Had a lovely day, and we took a picnic lunch so quite MSE.
It's haircut day today, and nip to DD's. We didn't get her buddleia cut back the other day so will do it today.
A vat of pea and ham soup will be made - it's a winter soup really, but it's sometimes still so cold.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Take care folks, or as they say here in the North East, gan canny.

Good Morning chums ,boy I thought yesterday was nasty, todays top forecast is 6c and heavy rain and wind !! definitely no sign at all of the spring. Its very nippy today ,but I don't have to go out until mid-afternoon so maybe it will quieten down a bit by then.

I am lucky now with my neighbours as the dodgy ones have moved on and taken their noise with them :)

Now on one side I have a lovely young family with two delightful little girls who will chatter away like little starlings if I have gone into the garden to hang out the washing (no chance of that today :))
Very sweet and they tell me all about school and what they are doing there .

On the other side is a single widowed Mum with a 18 year old lass and a 14 year old lad.She is a lovely lady who works her socks off as a carer for a local agency and her DD is also a grafter as she is working hard in her final year for her A levels

The boy is a smashing young man who is always helping his Mum around the garden and is so polite .A lovely little family who certainly are a great improvement on the previous ones who were to say the least bone idle borrowers. They moved out as the Mum refused to pay the extra for an empty bedroom when two of the daughters had moved out So the council moved them to a smaller property.

The peace and quiet that followed was bliss after all of their noisy arguments and barking staffie.

When my new neighbour moved in about two years ago I saw her after a couple of months and said 'Oh its so nice to have such a peaceful neighbour again ,you won't think of moving will you' ? and she said 'No chance of that I love it here, and the garden is fantastic' she loves it here and her Mum lives in the next road so she can keep an eye on her as well.
She is a smashing lady and although she works odd hours because of her job always has time to smile and nod during her busy day.
I am blessed with nice folk around me which is really a nice change after some of the neighbours from hell that have lived here over the past 23 years that I have been here.

Well time for a cuppa I think ,hopefully Speky will be around later to tell us how his date went :)
Have a good day chums and I hope everything is battened down if you are in the stormy area of the UK.
Tomorrow is the 1st May and I still have my CH on !!!

Cheers everyone ,roll on the summer

    Morning everyone,

Blue skies and sunshine here in the West Country but bbrrr very cold, am glad that the cottage has good CH!
Yesterday we went to Harlyn Bay and spent the day at the beach, I had jeans and a jumper on but there was a couple of hardy souls sunbathing in a sheltered spot. Spent ages on the rocks looking in all the pools and generally reliving my childhood :D little dog loved it and was a sandy mess by the time we got back to the car.

Hugs to all with worries and troubles, have a good day folks x
