Any ideas about making money through recycling.

Hello myself and a few other are on the fundraising group for our local school. We were hoping to link in the fundraising with some sort of recycling project. I dont know if this is a silly idea but something like collecting clothing, can etc... and selling them on. To benefit the school and to benefit the enviroment this would also link in with a few of year groups projects (nursery doing being a responsible citizen.
Many thanks for any help provided.
P>S any other idea would also be most appriciated.

Try ringing your local scrap yards to see what they will buy. Before people started giving the recyclable stuff fack for free they used to buy all sorts of stuff.
Car batteries
tin cans
Aliminium drinks cans
Newspapers
clothing
and, of course, scrap metal.
Try collecting old keys, jewellery, anything metal that people don't want, knives forks spoons etc.
Most would be lumped together and sold in bulk to the scrap man, but perhaps you may also get enough stuff good enough to warrant a stall at a car boot sale.0 -
Why not have a jumble sale - that is the way we raise most of the money at our school. They are a resounding success and it's all recycling! There is nothing left at the end of it except a profit and lots of happy shoppers and declutterers!
I'm pretty sure you can collect mobiles and ink jet cartridges etc but I'm not sure how you register for the money to go to your school.
The other thing might be to gather some sewers and put out a plea for fabric to make patchwork quilts or morsbags that you could sell. morsbags are nice because they have the added environmental message of not using plastic bags.
There are loads of things you can make with defunct cds from coasters to clocks.
These are one of my favourites - ladybirds from beer bottle tops! http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/ladybug_craft.htm
If you hit this page on the site there are all sorts of ideas for making things out of 'junk'
It sounds like a fun project and I'm looking forward to hearing other suggestions.

check with the metal merchants to see what they pay for..... as if a certain metal is low in price they will not pay you for it......
alu..... they will pay for.... as there is a hgih demand for that......
also there are textile recyclers which will buy your textiles for x amount per kg...... but again please contact them first as they might need a min.... amount from you before they will pay and pick up.....
i think paper and cardboard prices are low at the mo..... so dont think you will get paid for these items.......
as mentioned earlier a good old fashioned jumble sale is a great idea...... also try and make new items out of recycled goods......i seem a kitchen wall cupboard made out of old pallets and spoons bend to make handles...... very rustic look and very shabby chic......
rug rugs is another items you could make with the children and sell.....Work to live= not live to work0 -

Hi, I have been looking for a link to post but can't find it sorry. Our school uses "bags to school".
This is a company who dros off blue bags which you fill with clothing, bags etc andreturn to school. They then collect it and turn it into cash for your school.I think its about £200 per tonne but don't quote me on that.Ask your school to look in to it.Parents always have something to put in the blue bag and kids enjoy taking them into schoollost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013
