Ever wondered who paid for all those people sitting in business class on flights?
Seems us taxpayers do, via NHS quangos:

Did you bother to think before posting? It's a non story.
716 flights over three/ four years, so less than 200 a year. The NHS has a workforce of 1.3 million.
Government guidance suggests premium economy flights, but there is nothing to stop an organisation making their own rules. If someone is taking a ten hour flight, working during that flight and then going straight into a meeting, then that flight is good value. Compare to the cost of travel time doing nothing and hotels for additional rest time.
Business flights can be good value. In this case you've presented nothing to suggest that is not the case.0 -
That's also about £3k a flight, which means they are long haul. It's common practise to put staff on long flights into premium seats so that they don't need to waste a day recovering at the other end, or to allow managers to continue working during the flight (which is a pain from economy).
It's a total non issue.0 -
They're using public transport; do you think we should only employ people who own planes? There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

My private sector employer pays for me to fly business class when I am travelling long haul, I doubt I am the only one on here, the number above for business class flights actually seems surprisingly small to me!
Still I suppose some love a chance to bash the NHS whenever they can, if they were flying economy they would probably ask why they weren't walking0 -
The document the TPA link to for "government guidance" doesn't actually cover the NHS (be that quango or actual NHS)0
