Grants for self-employed?

My husband is a self employed cycling instructor and I was wondering if anyone is aware of any grants he may be able to apply for to help with the costs of completing further training courses to increase his skills?

Details of any other self-employed funding that he could apply for would be great.

Thanks

Do you have a local Chamber of Commerce? They will probably be the best place to ask as they will know what is available locally.

Usually grants are there for R&D, expanding to take on employees who are not currently working. Im not sure there are grants to help a one man band earn more money - I dont mean that in a derogatory way btw.

I was a one man band 18 months ago and I was looking if there were any grants to help with the expense of expanding and could not really find anything that was much use to me.

It is always worth contacting the local council. Many will have some kind of business development section which can offer support for small businesses. I'm not sure whether you will find grants for the purpose you mention but our local council offers free training and mentoring for small businesses.
