First salary query

So I started a new job this month, salaried, full time.

My contract start date was the 2nd, my first day in the office was the 3rd (as Monday 2nd was a bank holiday).

My salary payment is less than what I was expecting, so I’m trying to work out if they’ve paid me from the 3rd vs the 2nd.

I don’t have a payslip yet.

What’s the deal here, should I expect salary including the 2nd (in contract), or from the 3rd?

Hmm looks like the person that wrote your contract didn't realise the 2nd was a BH and the person who does the payroll assumes you should be paid from the 3rd, the first day you started work.

I would suspect its the contract that is incorrect but nobody here can you tell what is right. You will need to discuss and agree it with your employer.

Some companies have rules that say you need to work the day before and the day after a bank holiday to get paid for it. Thats working days obviously. Have you fallen foul of any odd rules like that?

What is the cut off date to submit to payroll. That could have an effect.

On the plus side, if payroll has calculated that you started work on the Tuesday, you won't have had to take a day's leave for the bank holiday. However you'll still have pretty much as much holiday entitlement as if you'd started on the Monday.
