Emergency tax and tax code

So I just got a job but I never gave my p45 so will. I get emergency tax and since it’s a new tax yr will I need a new tax code since my last tax code was 2017 tax yr

All the Emergency Tax code is in a nutshell is a deduction from your pay in the normal way that's higher than you might expect, this is because they don't know what your code should be. Once they have it it'll balance out and you should get a refund of any overpaid tax.

The emergency tax code is exactly the same as the standard tax code most people have, 1185L.
The difference with it is that it is used on s special "non cumulative" basis so you don't receive the benefit of any tax allowances you may be entitled to from earlier in the tax year.
If this is your first job in this tax year then you can avoid the emergency tax basis by asking your employer for a new starter declaration form. If you sign statement A you should be put on the emergency code (1185L) but it will be used on a "cumulative" basis.0
