R06 Exam

Hi Folks,

i am looking at attempting R06 in July to complete my Diploma.

i was made redundant by my previous employer and dont have any study materials. i have bought a package from Brand online however dont have the text book. i am just looking to ascertain whether it is important to have the book whilst studying or are past papers and the solutions papers available online suffice? is the CII revisionmate any good for R06?

if anyone has any material they are looking to sell or pass on i would welcome anything at this stage.

Regards

I havent done R06. However, CII exams are pretty standard in format across the board. The three things I always get are the book, past papers and revisionmate.

I've never been hugely impressed with CII's Revision Mate, but would strongly recommend going through past papers diligently. With the Diploma-level exams, I'd also recommend having the book, as these are generally more about how well you can recall the content of the book rather than being all about the wider context of financial planning (which is the expectation for the AF exams, for which the textbooks are pretty pointless). RO6 is probably the Diploma exam you could best-expect to pass without the textbook, as it is supposed to be the synthesis of the other RO papers, but to maximise your chances it's probably worth having the book.

Where are you based? If nearby, I might be able to arrange for you to come in and leaf through a recent copy of the text to see if you think it's worth having ahead of your exam. I have no doubt we have a copy lying around somewhere!

I took the R06 exam 2 years ago. You could probably pass it without the text book but there are some parts in the book that I hadn't thought about before. I can highly recommend Brand FT past paper analysis - they really are worth every penny! Also, have a look at past exams the CII have done and their own analysis.

I didn!!!8217;t use the book, it!!!8217;s all case study based which you get 2 weeks before. Get yourself on a study day to thrash out the potential questions. There are Cii trainers who run day long revision courses. Past papers also worth analysing.

Get a BrandFT case study analysis for it.

The R06 textbook isnt really worth it, its very much a technique exam, listing the obvious parts in bullet points.
