I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. It's a little bit long winded but here I go.
We moved into our house in October 2016. The house was rented before we moved in and the tenants moved out in August 2016. Since then we have received lots of mail for them, the main one being from a payday loan company. Normally I put them straight back in the post with not at this address on them, however today I opened one which says they owe over £4000 and the case has gone to court. I am a bit worried that we will get bailiffs knocking on our door chasing the money. I have tried calling the company who told me that I should not have opened the letter, which I probably shouldn't have done and that they will keep sending them until they find the person who owes the money but I don't have any details for them. They also said that they did not use baliffs? Can anyone advise what I should do next?
Thanks

I agree with just send it all back, if the bailiffs do come just show them your tenancy agreement and have a copy to hand to show them.
Houses aren't blacklisted either, debt is linked to people.0 -
Not your debt, not your problem, best not to get involved in any way, shape or form.
Return to sender, have nothing to do with it whatsoever.
One guy who posted last year tried to do the right thing and ended up with all kinds of problems with debt collectors etc, it was not his debt so got it sorted eventually, but the hassle was unreal for him and his family.
