Job agency confusion

Hi,
After a bit of advise as I'm sooooo confused.
I was made redundant APRIL 2017, I went straight into a new job and worked there for 3 weeks but it wasn't for me.
A job came up at our local council as a gardener but it was via a recruitment agency.
I left my job and signed for the agency in June 2017. Since then I have been in the same job at the council and I'm classed as a on going temp. Due to a major reshuffle the council cannot take me on full time yet, but have held onto me even over Xmas as I work hard etc etc and have promised I will get a full time job this year.
Anyway, recently I had to contact HMRC regarding a possible tax rebate. I was puzzled when the guy said I had 3 different employers since June (When I signed for the job agency). None of these employers are known to me???
I've today received a info pack via email regarding a work place pension and again it has my employer down as somewhere different, that I've never heard of.
I have asked my agency to explain what's going on but so far I have not received a answer.
It's embarrassing and confusing when HMRC ask about an employer and I've never even heard of them!
Does anyone have any experience of this?
If I don't get a reply to my latest email to the agency I will have to pop in and demand they explain it to me.
Thanks in advance.

The third company is probably an Umbrella company that is used/owned by the agency.0
