Mortgage after DMP

Hi there
After some advise please. My husband and I are trying to get a mortgage. Back in 2012 we came into some difficulty with finances so set up a DMP. This caused defaults and some adverse credit.
Since then we have come a long way and last year paid off our debts f&f and are now officially debt free.
My husband has a high income but self employed £70,400 net and I'm employed part time £13000pa.
We are trying to get a mortgage based on the above wage as his business has doubled profits in the past 2 years.
We have found a new build property at £450,000 and are looking at the help to buy equity and a 5% deposit.
We initially spoke to the financial advisor the builders recommended. We agreed to go for an aip after him agreeing all should be fine and he had checked over the paperwork. Only for Kensington to then decline us. Gu have advised him to appeal and send over our old dmp information. So have done this. But we are finding it is very long winded with this broker and lacking communication from him.
So yesterday I spoke to just mortgages. Communication fantastic, all documentation sent over and explained everything to them regarding the other broker. They said all should be ok. They have a potential lender but now it looks like because we have cleared all debt and not left it a year we may not be able to get a mortgage?! I'm so confused and stressed as we just want an answer.
Has anyone been in our position before?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Underwriters will be naturally pessmistic. 6 years to clear a DMP. Then you want to borrow a large sum of money. Also have suddenly found a large sum of money from somewhere. Which suggests repaying the DMP wasn't your top priority. Lenders have no need to take risk. Plenty of business out there.0
