Civil Service Hire Cars

A friend who's a Civil Servant had to have a hire car through work for a recent 6hr round trip for 3 people. For their (or UK plc's) £100+ they were given a battered 3dr Astra GTC, 16 plate with 58k on the clock vs my companys rate (albeit from a different rental company within 200mtrs) of £48 for the same period for a 67/18 plate 4/5 door equivalent.

Is this normal policy for CS hire cars or is any deal on a site by site basis ?

Certainly it was normal practice to hire cars where I was based. A real pain in the butt as it had to be collected from, and returned to, the office. Everywhere else I've worked the car would be delivered to the house.

When I was in CS we frequently hired cars, but this was through major hire company and the cars were delivered and collected.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

That's how it was everywhere else I worked, assuming you mean delivered to home and collected from home. That wasn't the situation at our DWP office. Staff had to collect the car from work and return it to work. That meant their own car being left in an unlit and unprotected car park if they were coming back late.

Our hire cars will be delivered to a home address if collecting from work would impinge on driver hour limits.

Usually delivered to and collected from work address, unless journey starting from home address.
