Its curtains!

You appreciate the good quality material, just don't need the curtains! Aside from trying to sell them (unlikely as they are made to measure), what would you do with them, in a decorative / home furnishing sense?

My ideas start and end with cushions :o

    I'd probably charity shop them.

But depending on the type/thickness of the material, you could use it to replace the coverings on existing furniture. Chair seats/backs, ottomans etc.
Or go the full Sound of Music and make matching pinnies for you and yours? :)

Depending on fabric and pattern, give to a quilting group. This would work for cotton fabrics.

Have you children around you? Fancy dress can become magical with spectacular fabric & theatrical costumiers use curtaining etc for the weight & durability of costumes.

Recovering armchairs etc becomes possible with abundant fabric, but capes are much simpler to sew & have a yet longer life in the dressing up box.

If it doesn't call to your muse - to the charity shops! someone will be smitten & all sorts of good things flow.

Do you have room to bag them up, with a bit of lavender or cedar to keep any moths at bay, and put them in the loft (or similar)?
I have never got rid of curtains - before long one of the family need them for something- maybe a stop-gap - maybe cutting down to fit their new place.
And yes, we have dressed Dumbeldore in them!
If you don't feel you have room, then either charity shop, or, if they are an unusual size, Freecycle m\y hit the target better.

Sorry! Just realised that you asked 'in a home furnishing or decorating sense'!!
And I have few ideas beyond cushions, or covering the odd stool. I have covered a headboard, and you could cut a bed cover as well, if they would look nice together in your new place.
Also, we often talk about door curtains for insulation, so you could think about that.

I have made loads of shopping bags out of curtains. I either sell them for a cat charity, or give them away.

  • I'd sell them if they're in good condition, even made-to-measure - theres a market for them. Failing that, cushions or tote bags.

My MIL adored old curtains to make items out of as the material was thicker. Some of the things I remember her making.

Bean bags - the big ones you sit on - not the ones we used to throw around the gym in PE lessons.

The cushioned part of a lap tea tray (FIL did the wooded top bit)

    A drawstring toy sack.

Re-covering the top of a pouffe box footstall

A nappy stacker holder, it had a covered stiff piece of cardboard in the bottom and a cut to size wooden coat hanger in the top. I loved this as we lived in a very small house at the time so was fab for not taking up space as it hung on the back of baby's bedroom door.

Now I really like this idea, it combines luxury with chill-time. Strangely enough I saw bags of bean bag filling in Wilko the other week yet this idea never occurred to me.
